Thamesmead

Thamesmead straddles the boroughs of Greenwich and Bexley on the south bank of the River Thames. The area was built on reclaimed marshland beginning in the 1960s and as a result is still dominated by soulless tower blocks.

The original development fell well short of its 100,000-target population but there has been more recent development along the river and there are still plans for further developments. Thamesmead does have a shopping centre but nearby Abbey Wood is a better option and this pattern is repeated for most amenities. Residents are mostly families and first time buyers looking for a bargain.

Thamesmead doesn’t have a station of its own – tube or train – so Plumstead and Abbey Wood are the closest options. Plumstead has direct services to Cannon Street, London Bridge and Charing Cross while services from Abbey Wood go direct to Cannon Street and London Charing Cross.
