Deptford

Deptford is located on the south of the River Thames, between New Cross and Greenwich. It was historically a famous port but there is not much river activity in the area today.

Deptford has always been known as the poor neighbour of Greenwich. However, in recent years the area has undergone something of a makeover, with trendy cafes and bars opening up. This has come about as a knock-on effect of Goldsmiths College (University of London) with its long list of Turner-prize nominated alumni. There is a bustling market on Wednesdays and Saturdays and its proximity to Greenwich means there are plenty of shopping and recreation facilities close by. There has been a great deal of housing development in the area with a number of contemporary apartment blocks helping to attract upwardly mobile residents.

Deptford has good transport links and the recent completion of the DLR station at Deptford Bridge has made it even more accessible. The train station is in zone 2 and you can get a train into Cannon Street in 10 minutes.
