What type of property survey should you have?

If you are taking out a mortgage the lender will insist upon carrying out a valuation inspection. Although you will bear the cost of this it is just a valuation for the lender's purposes and not a survey. The two most common types of property survey are an RICS Homebuyer Survey and Valuation, often referred to as a Homebuyer's Report and a Building Survey. The Homebuyer's Report will be suitable in most cases. The exceptions are properties that are more than 150 years old, that have been substantially altered or that have known structural problems. If any of these exceptions apply a Building Survey, previously known as a Full Structural survey, will be more appropriate.

Information on Hendon

Hendon is a leafy suburb in the London Borough of Barnet bordering the M1 and the North Circular, and containing the Brent Cross shopping centre.

It has a family feel, with good-sized semi-detached houses, a strong Jewish community, good local schools, substantial greenery, a golf course and its own football team. Middlesex University located its business school here while the area is possibly most famous for its police college and the RAF museum. St Mary’s Church in Church End has a history dating back to Norman times, while the Arsenal legend, Herbert Chapman, is buried in its churchyard.

Hendon Central tube station borders zone 3 and 4, on the Edgware branch of the Northern Line. There are also a number of buses travelling two and from Brent Cross Shopping Centre.
