Information on Canonbury
Canonbury is a residential suburb in the London Borough of Islington. Situated to the north of the postcode the area’s architecture is similar to neighbouring Barnsbury. Some of the finest Georgian architecture in the capital can be found in this locality. A notable exception is The Marquess Estate (now re-named New River Green), lauded as a model of good design when first built in 1973; it has since become a noted breeding ground for young thugs.
The New River runs through the centre of Canonbury. It is best viewed from the footpath that runs alongside and provides a beautiful walk from Canonbury Square up to St Paul’s Road. The nearest tube station is Highbury & Islington (Victoria Line) or alternatively there is Canonbury National Rail Station (North London Line), both of which are located in Zone 2.
