Information on Gospel Oak
Gospel Oak is an urban, multi-cultural area in the London Borough of Camden, neighbouring Belsize Park, Kentish Town and Tufnell Park and sitting on the southern edge of Hampstead Heath.
The name stems from a time when the area was still rural and a local oak tree was the focus for Parishioners to gather under and listen to an annual Gospel reading. There have been a number of celebrity residents in Gospel Oak, including Michael Palin, who’s been a resident for over thirty years, and Alastair Campbell. A lot of the area’s original housing was demolished after the Second World War, and a series of estates and tower blocks were built, which still remain. However, Period properties also exist, particularly in the Oak Village area.
Gospel Oak overground station is part of the North London Line, offering travel to Highbury & Islington, Hackney, Barking, Stratford and many other stations.
